Mayor's Message

The Mayor and Council are pleased to present the 2014 Strategic Plan for Riverton City. This is the seventh year of the Strategic Plan process. Since the time that the City initiated the process, I have come to rely on the Strategic Plan as the foundation of the budget process. Working with the City Council and staff, I am part of a joint effort that establishes the major priorities for Riverton during the upcoming year. This document not only sets priorities but identifies specific, measurable goals that I use when I prepare the Mayor’s budget, which will be presented to the City Council in May..

In order for the Strategic Plan to serve the changing needs and priorities of the City, it must be a “living” document. You will see that the Plan for this year is no exception. We welcomed two new Council Members this year and they were instrumental in providing their input into the process. When you read the plan you will see an increased emphasis on economic development. As your elected officials, we are well aware of the need to be very aggressive in promoting business activities that will result in the creation of new sales tax revenue. This is the life blood of our City and vital for the long term viability of Riverton.

A new goal this year is to emphasize the development of a comprehensive citizen outreach and communication plan that utilizes social media. The Riverton City website will be enhanced to serve as a primary information system for citizens, as well as existing and prospective business owners. This goal is a specific response from citizen requests that our government become more transparent and interactive.

The plan also calls out new curb/gutter/sidewalk construction projects, as well as road maintenance projects. Maintenance of existing infrastructure must always remain a high priority. In addition, there is always the goal of seeking funding to assist in the completion of new infrastructure for transportation enhancement. Storm Water Utility activities remain a high priority as we comply with federal mandates and continue to work on systems that will enable the City to handle storm water issues through build-out.

These are brief highlights of the Plan. I would encourage you to read the 2014 Strategic Plan in its entirety here.
